Whether you’re in Glasgow for a big meeting at the SEC, a West End wedding, or just a long-overdue city break, laundry probably isn’t high on your priority list—until you actually need it.
Maybe you’ve spilled a flat white on your only clean shirt, or your suit looks like it’s been lived in after a long train journey. Whatever the reason, having a mountain of dirty clothes in a hotel room isn’t ideal.
This guide covers everything you need to know about getting your gear cleaned while you're staying in the city, from what you can send out to how fast you can get it back.
In short: it’s a way to get your clothes cleaned, dried, and pressed without having to find a local launderette yourself.
While some big hotels have their own machines, most partner with a local specialist (like us!) to make sure the quality is spot on. You leave your bag with reception, and it comes back looking brand new.
Most services aren’t just for socks and t-shirts. Here’s the typical breakdown:
The Everyday Stuff: T-shirts, gym gear, underwear, and casual wear.
The "Dress to Impress" Stuff: Suits, dresses, and formal shirts that need a professional dry clean.
The "I just need a freshen-up": Sometimes your clothes aren’t "dirty," they’re just crushed from being in a suitcase. You can usually request a "Iron Only" service to get those creases out properly.
In the hospitality world, timing is everything. The Steam Shop offers:
Standard Service: 24–48 hours.
Express/Same-Day: If we can collect it early in the morning, you can often have it back by the evening.
If you’re only in town for a night or two, don't wait. Schedule your collection and get your bag down to reception as soon as you check in to avoid a last-minute panic before your checkout.
The Pocket Check: It sounds obvious, but check your pockets twice! We’ve found everything from loose change to wedding rings. Hotels and laundry partners can’t always be responsible for the "extras" left in a blazer pocket.
Be Specific: If you have a delicate silk dress or a shirt with a stubborn stain, let the reception staff know or leave us a note when booking your order. A little heads-up goes a long way.
Check the Care Labels: If an item doesn't have a label, most places will clean it "at owner's risk." If it’s an expensive designer piece, make sure you’re comfortable with that before sending it off.
Because Glasgow is a hub for events and business, we see a lot of:
Business Wear: Crisp shirts and suits for conferences at the Hydro or SEC.
Wedding Guest Outfits: Getting the creases out of a fascinator or a kilt jacket.
The "Post-Hike" Wash: For people who’ve just finished the West Highland Way and desperately need their muddy gear revived!
If you run a hotel or guest house in Glasgow and your current laundry setup is giving you (or your guests) a headache, we should talk. A good laundry partner needs to be invisible—everything should just show up on time, perfectly pressed, and ready for the guest.
At The Steam Shop, we provide:
Reliable 24–48hr turnaround.
Professional dry cleaning and pressing.
Simple, transparent billing - integrated with your internal systems, or direct to customers.
