The Steam Shop has been a familiar name in Hyndland for decades — a true neighbourhood staple in the heart of Glasgow’s West End. While the exact year the laundrette first opened its doors is hard to pin down, local history places it as far back as the 1960s. It officially became The Steam Shop in the late 70s or early 80s, and has proudly remained in the same location ever since.
Our story took a meaningful turn in the late 80s when Ghulam, my father, acquired the business. What began as a small family venture quickly became a trusted part of the local fabric — a place where generations of customers came not just to do their laundry, but to feel looked after. Through the changing face of Hyndland, The Steam Shop has stood firm, offering comfort, consistency, and service you can rely on.
Today, I have the honour of continuing my father’s legacy. Since his passing, I’ve taken over the running of the business, and while our roots remain firmly planted in tradition, we’re embracing the future. We’re revolutionising how laundry and dry cleaning work for today’s increasingly digital lifestyles — from launching online booking and pickup & delivery services, to offering faster turnaround times and a more modern customer experience.
At its heart, The Steam Shop has always been about care — for clothes, for people, and for the community. Whether you’ve been visiting us for years or are just discovering us for the first time, we’re proud to be here for you.
